"Oh, absolutely. I get a strong, high class, vibe from you. Lots of confidence. If someone generalized dragons based on interactions with you, it certainly wouldn't be a bad image." Steven said, with an educated, possibly pompous, air in his words.

"I'm glad I could impress you." She said sincerely. "Although I hope you aren't too disappointed if I don't quite live up to such a grand image."

"It would be immature of me to think you were exactly what I described, or anyone for that matter."

Diana went back to her steak. "Now it's your turn again." She told Steven.

"Hmm..." Steven took another bite of his steak, "Hmmm.... I've seen many kinds of dragons. Are there laws for different types of dragons getting together? Like an earth dragon and a runner."

"Not at all." Diana answered. "There are some, very few, that would scorn at it, but that usually comes up when it's parents that disapprove of who their children wants to marry and not because of any rational reasoning."

"I see." Steven said, thinking in the answer presentedave one weather or not he should follow up with his other question.

Diana finished her food as she waited for him to continue the conversation since it looked like he still wanted to say something.

"That steak was good." Steven said, no longer of any air to all his question.

"It was." Diana agreed. "I can hardly wait to find out how their dessert tastes." She wiped off some sauce on her mouth with a serviette. "Why did you want to come over to our world?" She asked.

"If I'm completely honest, part of me is looking for escape the other part for inspiration. Fantasy and myth has always been a muse for me before, so I couldn't pass on ask opportunity to explore it first hand." Steven said.

"But as it turns out we aren't fantasy or myth." Diana said. "We're real, with real lives and feelings. And so are you. That's really why I gave up my previous position for a lower one. I wanted to find out about the real humans, how they really are. An opportunity I too couldn't pass up."

"I think career choices with a bit of passion backing them can be the most fulfilling." Steven added.

"Don't misunderstand me." Diana replied. "I've always had a lot of passion for my career. I got there while trying to remain honest and sincere, which isn't easy as a senator. This is purely selfish."
|
|
|

"But if your passion was for being a senator and you attained that, wouldn't it be normal to make a choice entirely for you after that?" Steven said, "That's basically what I'm doing afterall."

"I don't think so." Diana replied. "This choice doesn't improve my career and the passion for my career isn't the same as the passion I have that led to this decisions. I choose another passion above my passion for my career. Did you really come here just because of your career? Or something more than that?"

"That's hard to say. My career and my passion are different. I'm adept at technology and physics. That's what secures my career and my place here as ambassador. But n't passion is for writing. I guess I used my career to further my passion." Steven explained.

"In that way I suppose we did make similar choices." Diana said. "We both used our careers to reach for our passion. Although..." She drifted into thought before changing the subject. "Never mind. So your passion is writing?" She asked.

Her hesitation gave Steven pause and peaked his curiosity, "Yes. Writing is the way to world's that otherwise wouldn't exist." He said, "Have you ever written? Creatively that is."

"I can't say that I ever have." Diana answered. "Although I do understand the pull of fantastic worlds and characters. My own interest in it is however, how would my friend put this?" She thought and then laughed. "Superficial I suppose."

"But how would you describe it? And who's this friend you've mentioned twice or thrice?"

"I'm not sure how I would describe it. I think I'm still deciding." Diana answered. They were interrupted by the waiter who collected their plates and inquired if they wanted something else. "We would like some dessert please." Diana told him and he retrieved two menus for them to decide. Once again Diana waited for Steven.

"Hmm..." Steven again mused to himself, "I'll go with a slice of chocolate cake please."

"I'll have the same with cream please." Diana ordered. The waiter nodded and left. Diana drank some of the wine that has been standing there for a while. "My friend? He's a bit of a human fanatic." She laughed. "Okay, a lot. He collects myths, history, comics, dolls, just about anything that has to do with humans. I think he believes most of it too. So facing the reality of it may be hard for him."

"Is that so? Sounds like a lot of people from back home, at least in the past. I guess we're so technologically dependent, that is it can't be proven we're quick to dismiss things. But all of you have already taken a step to beak that chain. I can't help but wonder what else is out there, is Dragons exist. And I'm sure there are Dragons thinking the same thing now that humans exist provably as well." Steven said, "I'd love to meet your friend. He'd give me a full idea, if not extreme, of how humans are viewed in your culture."

"I'm sure he'd love to meet you too, though he can get a bit weird." Diana said. "And I bet that's exactly what he's thinking, the possibilities now that humans are real. Me? Rather than get ahead of ourselves I'd like to enjoy what we've discovered now. I could arrange a meeting with him though."

Diana picked up her wine and turned it around in her claw for a long time as she thought about her answer before putting it back down on the table. "For now by talking to you." She answered. "This is very enjoyable." The waiter returned with their cake and placed it in front of them.

The waiter nodded and headed off. "Oh, it was." Diana smiled. "Very much. But this was all about impressing you today, so I'm glad you enjoyed yourself."
