Welcome to Fin City! The last stop to anywhere. It's the largest city in the world, with the largest population, largest crime rate, largest amount of weirdos gathered in one place and largest amount of unpaid taxes. Fin City is not the place where dreams start, it's where dreams end and the rest of you life begin.

Sleight Palmer was once an ordinary man. He had an ordinary job working for a company that made and installed mirrors. One day he was working on a large project replacing the mirrors of a Fun House that was smashed up by rotten kids. As he worked a freak thunderstorm started up and lighting struck both the fun house and the microwave towers near where the amusement park had set up. Lightning and microwaves bounced through the Fun House, reflecting of the mirrors with Sleight trapped right in the middle. He was found by his co-workers and taken to a hospital where he recovered. After the incident however Sleight learned that he wasn't ordinary any more, somehow the microwaves and mirrors had given him special powers, powers to manipulate the fabric of space. He became A MAN OF PORTALS! With his new found abilities came new dreams, new prospect for life. The lights, fame and fortune of Last Vegas! (spelled wrong purposely the distinguish the world) With his powers he was able to pull of the tricks of any magician with ease and never got caught out. But easy street is never really easy. Especially in Vegas where the rule was 20% talent and 80% entertaining the crowd. And Sleight's talent of entertaining the crowd was zero. After being thrown out on hard luck boulevard Sleight had no choice but to head for Fin City. Here he used his powers to scam people with card games and parlor tricks. What was once lights, fame and fortune had turned into street lamps, ridicule and scraping to get by. But this is only the beginning of Sleight's story. Here in Fin City he will experience a new, different, better raise. The raise of the Hat Trick!

Thala stone Hessey is a sweet girl that comes from a large family. She's the youngest of her 13 other siblings and even her name, "Tha Last One" compressed into one word and slit in half, was her mothers way of telling her father that this was in fact the last one. Her father was a laid back man in the house and a hard worker on the homestead. Oh yeah, it should be noted that this family owns a series of farms along a stretch of rivers, and their father seemed to always find time to visit each one. The kids were, of course, put to work tending to the fields when they were studying for school or enjoying time at home after sunset. Things were good at home. If anything, things were rough and the hierarchy of the siblings wasn't so much age based as it was "respect based" in the sense of if there was something to respect about you then you'd be higher up in the hierarchy. Thala was respected by her siblings for her innate ferocity and tenacity when challenged or if someone tried to belittle her. She wasn't against turning to fists before words to get her opposition to understand her side of things. Not particularly strong physically, she'd still give any one of her siblings a wallop if she had reason enough to go all out. Despite all this, she's still a sweet girl that's always reading on the latest comics and web storied she can get her hands on. And while she's affirmed on what her house is like, her only reference to non-farmer life is what she read in the stories, and noone could tell her otherwise. On the fateful, joyous, day of her 21st birthday, tragedy struck as smoke started to seep into one of the open windows. The family of 16 ran outside and looked in horror as the nearest field was ablaze and the flames were being pushed by the wind towards their house. Everyone immediately got to work, putting out the flames and stopping their advance. The father ran inside and called 911. Everyone was working hard and working together. Everyone, except Thala. Thala had caught sight of a group of guys running away from the blaze and Thala gave chase without giving it a second thought. She was pissed and, like her father, knew that this was a set fire. It was almost raining outside and in the middle of wet season with the fire being set to their vineyard. That just doesn't happen. It only took a bit for her to overtake the group of three, each one holding convicting evidence, fuel, a lighter, and a bundle of grapes they'd stolen. Thala made quick work of them and while the grapes were lost in the fight, she had thoroughly beaten all three assailants. Then one, the only one still awake, tried to drag their two friends away, Thala remembered this feeling. The feeling of accomplishment, of good overcoming evil, and of the heroism of saving the day. She felt like a real hero. The incident corrected itself and since the three were considered armed and dangerous, the girl wasn't charged. That night Thala spoke with her parents about leaving the farm. She didn't tell them why and quite frankly her parents never forced the kids to stay they just sort of did, and so they let her go. She picked up a napsack, convincing her parents that it would be more interesting to survive on as little as possible, and headed out. Hitchhiking her way down the street and getting a train ticket only to chase and jump onto the train for kicks anyway, she headed to wherever this road would take her. She figured whatever town she'd land in would probably need her help. As she rode the train, which she'd find out later led to Fin City, she imagines what her costume and hero name would be. OOC: Hopefully that's ok. I kind of let it flow from my mind to the screen, making it up as I went.

Director: In chapter 0 there will be a pre-scripted villain at the start and end of the chapter which will meet both the heroes, but they will both loose both times against him and he'll get away. A little something something to get things started. The main event will be set in this chapter to the introduction of the heroes after and before they meet the villain. They won't meet each other in this chapter, but will meet in a main event in the next chapter. You can do your minor event and mutation at any time before or after.

Prologue
Welcome to another wonderful day in Fin City! And what has such a wonderful morning brought us? Birds flying to a better smoke free climate? The chirping of car alarms? Crime? Although it's only minor crime which would make today a good day indeed. What more could a citizen ask for?
Sleight was out running through his normal morning exercises, which mostly involved him running away from some very upset customers that was under the impression that it was too early to get swindled. Sleight had convinced them this wasn't the case however and was now providing them some leisurely exercise to get the day started. He had put a good distance between the mob and himself, although he hadn't lost them yet. Turning into a familiar alley brought the raggedly dressed swindler to a halt however. Some good meaning policeman must have put up the ladder to the fire escape which Sleight used to escape more than just fires. He threw his hands out towards the ladder as if to say: 'Who would do that!?'. And quickly looked around to see if he had time for an alternate escape. The angry voice however told him he was in trouble. He looked up at the latch on the ladder and concentrated as he pushed out a hand towards it. A small silver glow appeared on the metal bar and Sleight quickly stepped over to a wall where he created another silver glow with his other hand. He pushed his hand through which exited from the glow above and unhooked the ladder, which fell down and clipped his finger. "Ouch!" Sleight said as he pulled his hand out and the portals disappeared. The noise was enough to alert his pursuers and he quickly scaled the ladder and pulled it up before a particularly angry large fellow could grab it. "This is the last time Palmer!" The large man shouted at him. "I'm just making a dishonest living like everyone else." Sleight said as he started climbing to the roof. "This may be too much for you thick skull Palmer! But not everyone is out to cheat and rob people and you're ruining one of the only parts of this city that still has some decent folk! But no more, you hear me!" Sleight had already reached the roof however, not paying attention to the gathering crowd below and took his normal route home.

The train came to a screeching halt and Thala, whom had poised herself atop the train at some point, took up her knapsack and launched herself from atop the train to the walkway below. She didn't account for the speed of the train or the distance she'd have to fall and her landing was rough to say the least. Both feet landed on the ground but her knees buckled and she lurched forward, toppling head over heels and rolling into the wall. She gave a pained groan and peeled herself from the wall. Picking up her napsack she looked around, her normally white and freckled face not bright red from the impact. She looked around at her onlookers and smiles confidently, "A hero always makes a dramatic entrance." She said, pointing her finger to the sky and running off the train stop nowhere in particular. OOC: Hopefully that's enough to build off of. I'm kind of reaching here.

ooc: That's fine, I still need to set things up. Hopefully it will flow better as we go. As our first main character plans the rest of his day at home the young Thela is about to receive some good Fin City hospitality. Sleight threw his daily 'earnings' on the table next to his lucky coin. Not that it ever brought him much luck, but it reminded him of Last Vegas. Reminded him never to go back and also why he shouldn't feel bad about what he's doing. It's a dog eat dog world out there and in Fin City you're either the meat or the bones. A honest living in Fin? Ha! He's not the problem, they are if they think that they could make a living like that here. Still, even a swindler needs a place to put his money and a bank is still the best place, if only because the banks are run by tougher swindlers that nobody would there to rob. The man practically walked into Thela as she left the station. "Pardon me miss." He apologized. He was wearing a leather poncho and had a scruffy beard. "New in the city? You should be careful, a country bumpkin like you may not fit in too easily. You should take the time to get yourself acquainted with the ways around here." What's this! Did this crooked looking Crook slip his hand into the girl's bag? A pickpocket on her first day? Will she notice? What did he steal? Could this be her first call to duty?

OOC: We're just in those early moment blues. After a page or two we'll be blasting through this like with TDS. Also, you misspelled her name. I deliberately made it Thala. If Thela is easier though, I can change it to that still. BIC: Thala smiled at the man and tried to make friendly, "Hello citizen. I'm actually unsure where I am. The train station said Finn city, can you point me to the police department?" She said, not noticing his hand but not having much in her bag anyway. Just the tensions I'd breakfast and some change she'd thrown in there.

ooc: No it's fine, Thala is easier to remember, I just got stuck on your explanation about how she got her name from 'The last' and thought it was with an 'e' so I was kinda making an effort to write it like that. "Is that so?" The man asked Thala. "Then why don't I show you the way? As a welcome to our fair city." He slipped his hand into his own pocket, feeling the few coins he had nabbed.

"No problem." The man said rubbing his arm. "I see you're going to fit in around here real well." He led her away from the station and to a nearby alley. "The police building is just through here, you practically can't miss it on the other side."

"That's right." The man said walking behind her. "Just through there."
But what awaited Thala in the alley wasn't a way through, but a gang of armed men and a dead end. What would become of the poor farm girl, and most importantly, her belongings?

ooc: Yep, that's the villain. Didn't mean to keep it a secret. And Thala is holding up his 'meeting' with my character so that's why I haven't posted for him yet. "Well look what we have here." One of the men waiting around the corner said when Thala walked in. There were five of them, each with a pistol in their hands or belts, sitting behind an open minivan with a wooden crate in the back. The kind of crate that usually held more guns. "What did you bring us Boss?" "Just a little something I met over at the train station." The man from before spoke up behind Thala, blocking the exit from the alley. "This little bumpkin wants to meet the police, even asked me to help her out. So I figured I would. The police really hate it if you're hanging around there without a reason." "I get you Boss!" The man answered. "We're going to give her a reason to be there." "That's right. Now why don't you be a good bumpkin and hand over all your belongings to my friends over there." He told Thala.

Thala was going to continue past the group until she noticed it was a dead end. And her fears were confirmed when she heard the man from before behind her. Her face grew sharp, focused, and angry as she fought toss her knapsack in front of her, "That's all I have. I didn't come to this city with much more then what you see before you." She said, raising her hands in surrender. She knew when she was out manned and when she was out gunned. This time, she was both.

"Let's go boys!" The man said Picking up the sack Thala threw down and throwing it to one of the guys. "We've got a job to do." Everyone got into the minivan and the guy that grabbed the bag opened it up. "Dang! She really is from the farms, there's just crap in here!"
Meanwhile...
Sleight stood in front of the bank. Busy as usual even when he try to avoid the rush. Looks like he was going to be here a while.

The police station was filled with people and it looked more like a store that was having a discount sale than a professional establishment. People were screaming and shoving to try and get to the counter where a disinterest looking man was writing down each individuals complaint. The station itself looked run down with most of the letters missing from the sign and if it weren't for the weather worn logo outside you'd think you were at the 'Po ic S ti n'.
At the bank...
Sleight was standing in one of the long lines of people when the masked men burst through the door. "Everyone down! This is a stick up!" One man said wearing a poncho. Sleight dived behind a couch, lying face down on the floor as he tried to see what was going on as well as trying to hide his money. The men made their way to the front of the bank were the shutters were already closed in front of the tellers. "Blow them." The poncho man said and the other men took out explosives that they placed on the shutters. Seeing this made the tellers panic and backed away quickly before the men blasted a hole through to them. "The safe is locked down. We can't open it." One of the tellers quickly told the men as they stepped through. "Don't worry your little head." Poncho told the girl. "We're not greedy, there's enough money right here on this floor for us to take." He laughed. "Clean them out boys."

The men went through the people in the bank, taking everything they could from the people and what was left at the tellers. So far they hadn't even noticed Sleight yet and he thought he may get lucky and they'd skip over him. Who were these guys? Who robbed a bank like a scene from a movie? And who was crazy enough to rob this bank? There was a commotion with one of the other people. "Please, it's all I have!" The man said as one of the robbers tried to take a suitcase from him. "Get off you stupid idiot!" The robber yelled at him. "Just shoot the guy!" One of the other robbers told him. They were going to shoot him! This was crazy! Why wouldn't the man let go, he was an idiot. Before really thinking about it Sleight got his lucky coin out of his pocket and made a portal in front of him on the ground. He made another on the roof above the robber and dropped the coin through it. The coin hit the robber on the head who let go of the briefcase. "Who did that!?" He yelled. "Which idiot did that?" "What's going on?" Poncho came over and asked the man. "Some idiot threw something at me!" He told him.
One of the female officers saw Thala sitting on the seat and came over to her. "This isn't resting area." She told her coldly. "You can't loiter here."

"We don't have time for this." Poncho told his henchman kindly. He stepped on the man's hand with the briefcase, who let it go with a squeal of pain, and picked it up, handing it to the henchman. "Now get the rest." Sleight saw where his lucky coin had rolled to from underneath the chair and thought it would be best if the robbers didn't find it and somehow linked it back to him. He created a portal in front of him and underneath the coin. The coin fell through, but shot into the air harder than he had anticipated, landing with a clang in the ground before he could catch it. "What's that?" The leader said and quickly headed for Sleight. "It came from here." He looked behind the chair. "Well, well. Looks like this one hit the dirt just in the right place, almost." He leaned down next to Sleight and picked up the coin. "And this seems a little suspicious, don't it? Hey you!" He shouted to the robber that was hit. "Was it this that hit you?" He held up the coin. "I don't know, could have been." The robber shouted back. He looked back down at Sleight. "Maybe you're trying to be a hero? Are you?" Sleight shook his head, but didn't say anything.
The officer put two fingers to the bridge of her nose. "We don't allow any soliciting either. If you want work go join a union, get approved and they'll position you where there's an available opening."

"Never heard of a union before." She said, "Care to point me in the right direction? And try not to be like the last guy who got me mugged." she said the last part quietly enough that it would have been inaudible amidst the busy noises of the precinct.

"Looks like the would be hero has a little present for us." The man in the poncho said seeing the bag of money next to Sleight. Sleight knew better than to resist when the man reached down and took it and his lucky coin. "Vegas?" The man laughed as he looked at the coin and threw it back to Sleight. "You can keep that. A reminder what happens to heroes." He said and kicked Sleight hard in the ribs who grabbed his said in pain. The man turned back to his henchmen. "Check to see that no one else conveniently fell behind the furniture and then let's go!" After they finished the robbers took their loot and left. Clutching his side Sleight was able to make it to the window in time to see them leaving in a minivan. He slumped to the ground with an arms still around his ribs and hit his other fist on the ground. He worked hard to hustle that money and now everything was gone!
"Look." The women told Thala. "I'm a police officer, not an information center. Go to the public municipal center, maybe they can tell you where to go." "Give the kid a break Maggie." A voice came from the side and a man in a brown overcoat walked up to them. "Look at all these people! All with real problems." The officer said. "And you want me to play tour guide?" "You can help a lot of people with just a little smile. I'll take care of the kid. Gather any officers you can find, we've got a bank robbery down at the B.o.L." "Wonderful." Officer Maggie said as she walked away. "This day is just getting better."
